Gladys goes to war is a children picture book based on Gladys the first ever woman to join the army in Australia. Gladys had 3 Sisters and 3 Brothers and her Sisters were dress makers and sewers, her Brothers were Soldiers in the Australian Army. Their mother wanted Gladys to become a dress maker like her sisters, but Gladys didn't want to be a dress maker but instead a Nurse for Soldiers that have been wounded from the bombs and attacks. One day in while she was working she over heard doctors saying they need a ambulance for the Soldiers out where bare handed people could not go. Gladys was so happy that this was her chance to prove ''Woman can go to war.'' She went up to them and said ''i'll be the driver.'' The doctors laughed and laughed no woman can't drive only men, but Gladys didn't listen she jumped into the ambulance and drove as fast as she could to the coordinates on the GPS. Moments later Gladys found the 3 wounded men loaded them into the truck and drove back to the Hospital. The men were revived and Gladys was waiting in the ambulance for another rescue. After the war she said to herself I want to fly a Plane, and she did. From that day forward Gladys was the first ever woman to have a drivers licence, to be in the war, drive were none have driven before in dangerous parts of Australia and to fly a Plane.
